Hey everyone!

Scales with Character: Introduction Video

Link

Wanted to go ahead and start this forum for this book I just released called "Scales with Character". This is a new scale and etude book written by and published by Phil Snedecor that enforces musicality with scale practice. If you would like more in depth details, check out this link here:

https://bdicksmusic.com/scales-with-character

The general concept of the book is taking scale patterns that are already established and breaking them down to fine tune the technique of the patterns in exercises. This is the example sheet of the scale patterns with exercises.

After the exercises page, you can turn the page to a character study. There are two versions of the character study. The simple version is a simple introduction to a certain musical style for an intermediate performer. After the student performers more etudes and is ready for a challenge, you can return back to C major with next concepts added, and revisit the etude with a more defined character, and more challenging technique.

This is a book designed for intermediate performers to get to the advanced level through scale practice and intentionally designed character studies! The book has a flexible format for teachers and students to guide through in their own way, but I will be starting up a youtube/facebook series going through the ways I have taught my students through this book! Will update this forum once I have a new video for access. For now, check out the link and see the basic idea of the book!

Lesson #6 is out!

We are going to use to to learn how to play high notes on trumpet. Playing high notes is not that difficult. It we start small and gradually develop our high range, it will help long term. Today, we are going to build the foundation of our playing so we can move up the horn more effectively!
