The Ted Heath orchestra does a number of souped-up arrangements of Glenn Miller hits on this tribute album, Anyone know who gets the dub C on this recording of Tuxedo Junction? I assume they're all British players.
Hmm, he specifically says in the interview that he isn't a double C player, that he tops out at G/Ab. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

Ah OK, I only suggested him as he was in the Heath band at that time. _________________ Bb - Scherzer 8218W, Schilke S22, Bach 43, Selmer 19A Balanced

Was Derek Watkins possibly on the Heath band in '72? Wasn't he Britain's preeminent high-note guy? Trying to find a list of the personnel on the album but not having success so far. Looking at photos of it, it doesn't look like they listed the band members unless it was on an insert sleeve.
I'd like to think Miller would have liked how they enhanced his original arrangement, making an already cool arrangement even cooler.
Hmm, I see Ted Heath died in '69 but I find this album was released in '72. Maybe a compilation of previous recordings? Ghost band? _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I had a good hunt around for the info and I can't find personnel for it but the trumpet section on the Benny Goodman tribute album they recorded around that time was:
K Baker, D Watkins, B Ezzard, R Hughes
So it seems likely it was Derek.
These were recorded in 71 or 72 after Heath had died. The band then broke up and was not reformed till 77 under Don Lusher. The musical director for this album was probably Roland Shaw. _________________ Bb - Scherzer 8218W, Schilke S22, Bach 43, Selmer 19A Balanced
