|
|
Hi all,
A few years back I was given an old Couesnon cornet - I had it cleaned and it is fully functional, though it does leak some air from the valves. Recently I pulled it out again and have become interested in getting more info on it. I'm also wondering if it's worth restoring further or if it's best left more as a show piece.
I would much appreciate any info on the horn - here are some photos:

The "47" in the pineapple engraving indicates 1947 as the manufacturing date.
It 's interesting to see a shepherd's crook bell with such a late date.
I wouldn't get the valves refitted, unless you have a bunch of money to burn - it won't return it on resale. _________________ "Strive for tone." -John Coppola

It's actually a 17 - sorry that the picture doesn't show it well (was hard to get a photos without a bunch of reflections). I would assume that the 17 would mean it was produced in 1917? |

Probably a nice playing horn. The valves would have to be really bad to degrade the tone. It will just be a bit darker. _________________ Too many Old Cornets to Count |

It is a pretty fun horn - unique personality and tone. The valves somehow are still in great shape, stiff springs but good action. The only major downside with the horn is the lack of a third valve tuning slide. Other than that, it still plays pretty well.
Does anyone know the approximate value of Couesnon's old cornets? Not really looking to sell, just wondering. |
