I bought the new live DVD by Boz Scaggs. What an incredible band he had that night. Boz is no slouch either on his axe.
But I keep playing the first encore tune, Runnin' Blue. Rich has a solo near the end and he absolutely tears it up. I have done a search on the internet and didn't turn up a whole lot on him. Can any of you Bay area cats tell us more about him? I love the way he twirled his horn too. A bit of a showman. Anybody know about his equipment? It looked pretty unique. _________________ Joe |

I know Rich. cool player. Last time I saw him he had a Taylor trumpet.
I love Runnin Blue and would like to hear the cd. Who else is in the horn section?
On the original recording of Runnin Blue, my mentor Tom Poole plays trp.
I love the head on that tune! The high E sounds so much higher. I play that head all the time. Every trumpet player should know it.
Rich is also a good vocalist and front man.
Oh it's a DVD. I wonder if I can rent it??? _________________ Eric Bolvin

Eric,
I thought I read somewhere that it's on CD too, but that not all the songs from the DVD got on. _________________ Joe |

Saw/heard him last night with Cold Blood. Playing on Taylor trumpet and flugel (very funky horn, that), and lots of percussion, and really kickin' it. Never saw a trumpet play with that many pedals, though.
Nice guy, though. After chatting a while, he handed me his trumpet - which is VERY heavy. _________________ BKA! Mic Gillette was my mentor and friend.
Marcinkiewicz Mic G. trumpet, Custom Marcinkiewicz mpc. (Among others)
Marcinkiewicz Rembrandt flugel, Benge 8Z cornet, King 2B, Bach 36, Benge 190, Getzen 3062... many more. All Marc. mouthpieces. |
