He was a master of lip slurs....Note the slight bit of valve-down slow slur at 1:21. Wow!

Did Jumbo play the large or medium-bore Committee?

tptptp - he really is cranking. At this point in his career, I believe he could make his horn do anything. He was considered a prodigy from early on. There are technically better trumpeters, but Al could Entertain and that was what propelled him above others commercially.

markup - to the best of my knowledge he played a large bore.

Fantastic footage. Al is one of my all time favorites. He could do it all!!
