I was wondering why some companies make very heavy trumpets and how does this affects the sound? |

Hello,
In my Schilkes, the heavier design has a little more core to the timbre than the lightweight... _________________ Christian K. Peters

In general, more weight will decrease the upper colors in the sound and can lock in some of the slotting but, there are a mulitude of other variables. Where that weight is, how much, what material it its, how it's distributed, compounded with all the other elements of design is as much a factor or more. And like all other things, a little can be an improvement but, a little more can be a detriment.
The tone can have a more solid feeling core, projecting more, but can also come out as dull or shimmerless.
Reminds me of beliefs of some of Monettes. Great horns that play awesome but have such a solid core, and tight projection, that they don't blend well with other makes of trumpets. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator
