So my brother mentioned it to me that my neck puffs out when I play the trumpet the other day. Is it normal for this to happen?

My neck doesn't puff out when I just blow, but when I introduce some resistance toward my mouth, that's when it starts doing it.

Here's a video

Mine does that too. And has for MANY years. The pressure is greater as you are using more blowing effort to sustain the air flow through the resistances you are introducing.

You are really relaxing the muscles in that area which is fine but there is a potential for injury. You can learn to use enough muscular control to minimize that puffing effect without any adverse effects on your playing.

Check out Clay Jenkins (Eastman School prof, member of Clayton-Hamilton big band, etc.)

My neck does the same thing. In the past I've tried to eliminate it with no luck. It doesn't seem to be something I have control over. At the same time, it hasn't caused me any issues that I'm aware of. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Mine has been known to "enlargen" itself, not as shown by the clip but more generally so to speak. Nothing to worry about. However, once, I was playing the soprano at a concert, having a row of very high runs - I became aware of my tie having been knit too tightly - consequently I almost strangled myself, becoming somewhat dizzy
Today I watch out for tight collars and ties

I’d go to an ENT and let them see.

It could be nothing. But, it could be pharyngocele (spelling?) which has ended some great players careers (even after corrective surgery)

looks like a pharyngocele to me, I've got one too! Go get it checked, but they'll probably say it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't hurt. They may be able to give you some exercises to try and control it, and do a CT scan whilst you're activating valsalva. Which might be what you're doing when you're playing!

There may already be injuries, anyway check with the doctor, it will not be superfluous. If you're doing all right, your muscles will get stronger over time.

Nothing to add regarding the neck puff but...

Man, that booth that the horns are in must have some crazy reflections or something as that's a pretty weird sounding trumpet! Maybe the the mic is in figure 8 and catching tons of bounce off that glass door?
