I'm programming a solo recital with piano for the spring, and am trying to make the selections as equitable as possible.

I've found resources like this:
http://www.amydunker.com/Trumpet%20Music%20by%20Women%20Composers.pdf

and this:
http://oboeclassics.com/~oboe3583/Women%20of%20Note/Trumpet.pdf

which are fantastic, but am having some difficulty finding further pieces for trumpet and piano composed by people of color and women.

Any thoughts or specific pieces you may have programmed yourself?

Thanks everyone!

I don't know if you have the loot to get it transposed, it might also call for some rearranging, but Amy Reibs has written a pretty decent piece, Red Dragonfly- Sonata for Trombone and Piano.

https://www.composerdiversity.com/composer-diversity-database

This resource won't help you find specific pieces, unfortunately, but it could help you identify some composers to look up and see what they may have written. You can search for composers by gender, living/dead, genre (you'll probably want chamber for trumpet and piano), and race/ethnicity. It's at least a starting point.

Additionally, Jennifer Higdon has a work for trumpet and piano, "Trumpet Songs." There are a couple of short clips on her website

Adolphus Hailstork wrote a Sonata for trumpet and piano, recorded by Rodney Mack (Marsalis). Sheet Music Plus also has listings for a Concertino as well as a piece called Four Hymns Without Words.

Thanks everyone!

Some fantastic suggestions so far. We've already tentatively programmed the Higdon, and there is a Libby Larsen piece that we may do.

I've looked at the Diversity Database, but as you mentioned, there is no search field for solo works with piano by instrument, so using that resource will take a little bit more digging on my end.

Great stuff, keep it coming!

The trumpet concerto by Aleksandra Pakhmutova. A fun piece by a living Soviet female composer!

There is a Choral and Gaillarde (actually two separate pieces but work well as a combination ) by Germaine Taileferre , one of ‘Les Six ‘ . Also a fine wok by Cecilia McDowell ‘Night trumpeter’ that is an extremely effective recital piece.

Thank you to everyone for the helpful replies -- I can't wait to go listen so some of these!

Many of these composers are people I've never heard of, and this is exactly the point of this programming decision -- to help expose people to some great music they wouldn't normally have the chance to hear.

Great thread to bring up a bunch of composers I haven't heard of before! Awesome idea on inclusive programming, I wish this were more prevalent both in the classical and jazz worlds. Thanks for the suggestions, folks!
