Hi All ...

I was handed a Soprano Cornet in error at a rehearsal and was later 'outed' with much hilarity. Having borrowed the instrument I have started looking for tutor books aimed specifically aimed at the instrument - without success so far.

Has anyone got suggestions for a tutor book specifiacally for the Eb Soprano Cornet?
The only set of pieces I have been able to find is Jock McKenzie's 'Soprano Supreme'. Does anyone know of other studies for Soprano?

Thanks ...

Regards
Ben

I haven't seen a text but, use Getchell book, piccolo trumpet books, and Eb solo literature as fodder. Then any music from the Eb soprano brass band book.

I do not know if there is a such thing as a tutor or systematic method specifically for Eb soprano cornet that starts at a beginner level. It seems like the common approach is to apply what you already know from playing the larger instrument.

Scales & Arpeggios for Eb cornet by Philip Sparke

Order from June Emerson

Etudes & Duets for Eb trumpet or cornet by Mel Broiles

Order from Manduca Music
Order from JW Pepper

Play everything you have. The music doesn't know or care what you are playing. I had a friend email me yesterday asking about parts for baritone. I said the same thing. Just play whatever you have on the new instrument.

If you're a beginner don't do it!!.

Soprano is a terrible instrument to learn on - you'd be far, far better learning on Bb cornet and (should you wish to) take up soprano playing when your playing is much, much more developed (think grade 8 Bb at the very least before it's appropriate to be taking up Eb cornet/trumpet).

Hi all ...

Thanks to everyone for the valuable advice and I think probably TKSop is right. However, I am going to keep a list of the suggestions for the future and focus on the b flat instrument for a couple of more grades.

Regards
Ben
