Cases are killer. Dropped my Tenor Sax head-over-heels on a concrete staircase and it came up with not a scratch or mal-adjustment. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Ok, let's go ahead and specify my dream case, then. A trumpet case that is large enough to fit either my piston OR my rotary OR my flugel. Enough additional space to fit all the small gear we all need. More than one (ideally three) slots for mouthpieces. A slot for a music stand or two mutes. A large pocket to really fit all the music you need for a longer gig. Comfortable backpack straps. Reflecting patches to be seen at night. Oh yeah, while you're at it - choose a color other than black! Red would be great. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

That would likely be the size of a hatchback!
I would love to buy a Walt Johnson tpt/flugel... I have had so many close calls when flying with my horns... _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Will it have the optional mini forklift to go with it when using it completely loaded? |

Brassnose said "or," not "and".
I think it would be fairly easy to supply what you want. You size the case -- the shell -- to hold the largest instrument (plus accessories), I assume it would be the flugelhorn. Then you create removable foam inserts for each instrument (plus accessories), either in a suspension fashion like Wiseman does or as a full, form-fitted insert like in my Walt Johnson single. I would keep the music outside the box in an attached bag myself, since it doesn't need to be protected from shock.
You should be able to do this already with a Pelican case. They have lots of options. |

I don't understand what this has to do with somebody's Johnson. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Hey guys, I didn't expect that many comments. Weight-wise my dream case would not be so heavy because there is only one horn in it - I was not aware of Pelican cases, will check them out! _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

Update: just received a reply from someone (maybe Mr. Johnson) on his Facebook page, saying they might be available sometime this summer.

Johnson cases are built like tanks.
I was just reminded, there was an English maker of Berkely Cases that were good alternates. Pretty protective but, I think, a little lighter. I believe the maker was Don Mackrill. I would keep an eye open on eBay in case one comes available. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

This is GREAT news. I actually came across Walt's Facebook page for the upcoming reissue of his cases, and was going to post about it on the TH. But fortunately I did a search first and found Brad's topic thread here.
My Walt Johnson single case has protected my horns on two different continents under less than ideal touring conditions. I've always wanted the Trumpet/Flügelhorn Combo case but didn't buy one when I could. Looking forward to that case!
Best wishes to all,

I agree! I sure hope the current world situation, (*which of course is FAR more important) doesn’t cause a huge delay in these becoming available again.
*Again, I’m NOT implying that a horn case is in any way as important as resolution of the Covid-19 mess.

Absolutely!
But in today’s climate of political correctness, sometimes we end up sending in a preemptive apology strike for things that were never intended to offend anyone to begin with!😬
