Hi everyone,
My first post here, so be gentle.
I'm a beginner playing a Thomann FH 600 G Bb-Flugelhorn which has a spring-loaded 3rd valve trigger. The spring is quite strong so it's relatively hard work keeping it pulled, at least enough to make it more difficult to keep relaxed hands. I was wondering if others have similar experience and whether I will just get used to it or whether there are mechanical solutions that are recommended.
Cheers for any advice!

A repair tech could install a weaker spring if it is a problem. |

I had a extremely stiff spring in my Bach 184L cornet that I solved by getting rid of the trigger assembly altogether.
I'm sure a less stiff spring would have helped some, but not the alignment or position, or the fact that I generally dislike triggers.
I thought about installing an assembly on my Yamaha 731, but I have a ACB Flugel with one and have thus far decided I prefer mine sans-trigger.
As Brad points out, you don't need to use it a ton, it won't be often that you need to "keep" it activated. Nevertheless, it should be possible to find a weaker spring. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

My Bach 184 had a REALLY strong spring on the 1st valve trigger. I took it to a local tech and he put a much weaker spring on it. As long as the slide moves freely and is greased, it doesn’t take much of a spring to close it. I have no idea why they put such stiff springs on them. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

I had the opposite problem on my flugel and got my local repair tech to put a stronger spring on it, but nothing like you are describing. Though you can do it yourself, a tech will probably have a range of springs to choose from. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S
