I gave my girlfriend a set of all the I Love Lucy videos on DVD. She has always loved that show. I am sure it's on one of those DVDs. I saw it before. I will put that on my list of things to do to track that down. I know the box set is here.

I found the set of DVDs. It's Seasons 1-9. I bought them for my 14 year old daughter because she loves Lucy too. I am going to borrow them from her and let it play and just capture various clips of Claude. He's all over that show. I remember the port hole appearance because it's funny. There's several where he's in the band always playing with his valves. There's one where he takes a solo that sounds more improvised and less like what is on his big band albums. Claude is in a about 80% of the band appearances because some of the time they used a different band instead of the studio orchestra. Claude is on all the background music and the theme that everyone knows.
In Arturo Sandoval's "For Love or Country" movie they have a few clips of I Love Lucy. I need to ask Arturo about that and what it was like and how he could see that on TV but not be allowed to listen to jazz on Voice Of America shortwave radio. Ricky was Cuban and that's the point the brought out in Arturo's movie.
Time to watch some old TV. The humor is often much better than current TV.

I guess the Carnival of Venice Happened in Old Monterey. |
Musicologists will eventually all agree that Claude's big band trumpet solos are the missing link between the Virtuoso Cornet Soloists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and modern jazz soloing.
It's a unique thing for sure, but I LOVE it.
And it does remind me of some of the soloing that Harry James did. |
Isn't Louis Armstong that missing link? |
