What are the thread size and pitch on the modern era Schilke trumpets valve buttons?
Thanks,

Asking if the Schilke button threads are size 8 x 32 threads per inch?
Thanks,

Ron, I ran a 8 x 32 die on my Schilke X3 finger button, and it only goes on 2 full turns and stops. I don't have a 8 x 36 die or tap to confirm, but my thread gauge shows the threads are 36.
Maybe someone can help confirm that the thread truly is 8 x 36?
Regards

Bill, you’re correct about Schilke finger button thread pitch, it’s 8-36.
Ron, if your looking for alternative buttons for your Schilke, we have Curry lightweight finger buttons availability at our web store.
I hope this is helpful. _________________ James Becker

Bill/James - thanks for your conformation and info. I am seeking all metal replacements for my Martin Committee and thought the Schilke buttons may work. I’ll double check my thread pitch, but awhile back, I wrote down that it was 32 TPI.

Just double checked the Martin Committee finger button thread pitch at 32 TPI.

There are several brands with 8-32 finger buttons. In no particular order Olds, Reynolds, Kanstul, King, some Conn, Getzen, domestic DEG/Dynasty, Vega, perhaps others I can’t remember. The trick of course is height and whether there’s a riser or not since Martin buttons have one. Good luck! _________________ James Becker

Ron,
Have you had any luck?
I ask because I a 64 RMC committee with NON matching buttons and stems..
Two are original and one has a thicker diameter threaded finger button that looks like a 30's button and matching valve stem.
I tried olds, conn, blessing, Holton, and even Martin Imperial and Indiana buttons and the thread does not match...all have a thicker diameter threaded rod on the caps.
The stems of the other martins interchange but the top caps do not fit my committees thread ...so the buttons then hit the original top caps since they are a bigger diameter.
I would love to find a set of replacements that look more original then some custom billet ones. _________________ Jason

well....I think if figured out MY issue.. my horn being part of the RMC era it looks like they used a Reynolds valve block and trim on my hybrid horn...
now to find a doner horn... _________________ Jason

Jjayf - I have slacked off on my search lately since one button pearl is only slightly chipped and still usable. James Becker provided some good info as to the horns which have the same button thread pitch as my Martin Committee.
I was a little confused by your description of the mismatch. Do you have a button that does not match AND a mismatched top cap? A picture may help others chime in on your issue. Good luck with your search.

No, a button that does not match and the valve stem that screws into the top of the piston and holds the spring in place is not correct either. It has the thread for that finger button but is not the original thread that matches the originals.
After some studying I have found that this RMC era trumpet has a Reynolds Valve block like the Magnas did...so I think I can find what I need to get everything back in order.
maybe this link will work:

jjayf - now I get it. Someone changed that one valve stem and maybe the whole valve. You might check, if you haven’t done so, to make sure the stem threads that screw into this piston is the same as the other 2 valves.

Absolutely! It amazes me that RMC decided to go with a Reynolds Valve block for the 64 committee when I have a 64 Imperial "student" trumpet with a Martin style valve block that goes back to the 40's
the horn plays very nice so I can't complain, with the flugelesk bell profile and extremely long leadpipe. _________________ Jason
