Just heard from a mutual friend that Ed Tarr "... passed away peacefully this morning."

Confirmed by ITG.

Sad news. Though from afar, I've learned a lot from him.

I am so saddened that my good friend has passed. Ed and I collaborated on many projects including my Trumpet Greats book, the 3rd English edition of his The Trumpet book, and numerous concerts together.

I always enjoyed visiting him and Irmy at their home in Bad Sackingen, and Ed stayed at my home a few times. He was one of the most brilliant people I ever knew!

His performance and scholarly legacy will last for a hundred or more years. The trumpet world lost a great man!

Sorry to hear that, Dave. I bought an autographed copy of The Trumpet Book from you a number of years ago. Glad I have it - he was something special.

I first got to know Ed really well when I was ITG President 1977-79. He was Vice-President. We were striving to make ITG more international, and he had a ton of good ideas. He also worked hard to recruit European members.

When I was 12 I received a gift of this recording. My uncle, a professional bassoonist, after hearing me phrase some Arban studies, gave it to me and said "when you play those studies believe in your mind that you are Ed Tarr".

The NY Times also had an article about Ed's passing and the great influence he had on the music world. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/30/arts/music/edward-tarr-dead.html. That article also has a link to a YouTube video of his playing in a Bach Brandenburg concerto No.2 performance, which is lovely playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1MuId9VxjA.

RIP Dr. Tarr and thanks for all you did for the trumpet world.
