Just curiosity. And no, I'm not trying to hit Double High C in 37 Weeks.
Does anyone know anything about the background of Roger Spaulding, it's author, and any notable players who benefitted from this system?
In the literal sense, I'm including the hard-soft sequence he advocates as integral to his system, not just the exercises in-and-of themselves. Similar exercises can be found in other systems. Thanks. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I don't have the book in front of me, but I do remember reading some sort
of bio and the many testimonials. I can research further this evening...
But while I really liked the exercises (and still use some to this day),
the every other day ritual was not possible for me. |

I have the book, and still use parts of it.
This doesn’t exactly answer your question about Spaulding, but WAY back in high school, my private teacher had me using parts of it to increase upper register, but I never did Spaulding’s recommendations regarding on and off days. My top end did increase from an iffy D to a (4th ledger line) G, in about 18 months. I’m still not sure if the increase was due to the exercises, or the fact that I drastically increased my practice time from maybe an hour daily to three daily during the school year, five daily during summers. Or maybe it was both.
At any rate, I think the book is useful, it seemed to help me.

I have to assume that at some point the copyright for "Double High C in 37 Weeks" lapsed, because Charles S. Peters' "Total Range" (1975) is almost a note-for-note duplicate (and easier to read/use). |
