Brandt's 34 Orchestral Etudes are supposedly all based on various orchestral excerpts. I was wondering if anybody has a list of which excerpts each etude corresponds to. Some of them are rather obvious (i.e. #8=Capriccio Italien, #11=Leonore, #16=Sheherezade, etc), but on most of them I'm not exactly sure. It would sure help to know what orchestral work Brandt had in mind for each etude, in order to add some insight into performing them. |

alright this made me think I ought to go back and dust those puppies off. Alot of times he is just exploiting a common rhythm or something. But the ones I think I know, if I'm wrong just tell me-
#2 Bizet-Carmen
#4 Wagner-Lohengrin
#13 Tchaik 6
#19 Carmen
#23 wagner-ride
#24 could be a number of beethoven symphonies (7,9)
#27 Scheherazade again
just a few I could think off hand
is this melody from #3 from somewhere?- I can't place it.

Somewhere in all my files from universty I have a list of many of them, given to me by my tutor. No idea where it is, nor if I will ever be able to find it again!
This thread is going to bring back some haunting memories!! |

I played most of those for my lessons this past year at FSU... hard stuff. I don't know the answer to your question, but some of them are listed in the book its self... hard stuff, hard stuff.

I'll definitely be staying away from whichever work #29 is based off of. That one kicks my tail every time! _________________ --Matt--

#2 is not from Carmen, but from Rimsky-Korsakov's Tzar Saltan. The quote, actually has a misprint. |

Have been playing out of this book, VERY tough! I like it though because they are excerpts and not just exercises so it feels like I'm playing music and not just going through etudes |

Fun book, and great for building up some endurance. Even though it doesn't indicate it, I like playing the "orchestra etudes" in addition to the "last etudes" in various keys on C trumpet. Good for the face, good for the brain, and fun all at the same time! |

I'm not sure all of them rely to a specific orchestral work.. I could'nt either find a realted exerpt to each. |

How about #6? Does anyone know if that's based on anything specific?
Thanks
