I saw Klobnak had posted his Jazz Targeting course for free during the Covid crisis:
https://jazz-targeting-school.teachable.com/p/targeting-membership
It's really generous of him, and I signed up yesterday and gave it a go. It's something I'd looked at before and am grateful to try it out now. The course offers different options for beginning and advanced players. Probably the most helpful thing for me will be the 12 week targeting method, since I still don't really have my scales fully down.
I'm still not up to speed on basic theory (modes, chords, etc.). I think I'll still have some catch-up to do. I may come back to post on progress, and am interested in others who are trying it or have tried it before. |

Just a quick note that I think this promotion ended yesterday. It basically worked out to a one month free trial. I skimmed the ebooks and started on the twelve week course. Here's what I got out of it:
-I found the approach to "targeting" and guide notes helpful and this helped me to think through improv and understand it better.
-I liked the 12 week series on chords and I think I improved some.
-I think with the regular membership there's a 30 minute 1:1 class, but I'm not quite sure how that works.
I feel like the course has some nice resources. $40/month feels steep for me, although if it includes basically a free lesson then it's very fair. |

Thanks for checking out the free trial! I'm sorry for just now seeing this. I've been swamped the last week or so and haven't had a chance to pop on TH.
It sounds like you were making good strides on the Targeting Masterclass and the 12 Weeks to Fluency. Hopefully they've added some value for you!
The membership is $39/month, but that gives you access to the Targeting Masterclass (which is one course), 12 Weeks to Fluency (a separate course), all of the other books, PDF's, 6 performance albums, a 30 minute 1-on-1 consult, as well as a new course coming in July on Creative Composition (which is how I compose using my targeting principles and exactly how I teach composition students).
There's also more courses planned for end of 2020/early 2021. Which, hopefully, continues to provide the value worth the expense.
You're more than welcome to come join!

I wanted to share with those that might have followed this thread that the membership cost was just recently changed to $15/month.
Many of my students enrolled have faced severe financial hardships during the past months and have had to make some tough decisions - including whether or not they can continue with their membership/lessons.
My goal has always been to help people find a better way to improvise (and compose) and that becomes harder to accomplish if it is cost prohibitive for my students. This is a way you can reach your improvisation goals for less than what you probably spend on coffee.

I think that this course is good enough, so the $15/month is a moderate price for it |
