Hello and bravo to those who are willing to put up with the work that the horn requires.

This idea has served me well trying to win auditions. I got the idea from Christopher Smith, San Diegos symphony 1st trumpet. Of course it can be changed but the main idea is to control the time and the rest.

for warming up...

1minute play (lip buzz, mouthpiece buzz, leadpipe buzz or whatever you use to start

30 seconds rest

2 minutes play

1 second rest

3 minutes play

1:30minutes rest

4 minutes play

2 minutes rest

5 minutes play

2:30 minutes rest

6 minutes play

3minutes rest

7minutes play

3:30 minutes rest

when you reach the 8 minute you rest 4min and repeat until you feel like it. try practicing with a stopwatch to monitor your time better.

rest whatever you need and comeback to the 8/4 that day... and practice before you play tired.

One rule of my teacher is to practice neutral. Not angry or fruestrated, or happy and excited about the outcome. And also dont leave the trumpet when tired. If you dont have time to practice try setting 5 or 10 minutes of that day only for the horn. 5 minutes is better than nothing.

good luck with it

Ric

Ricardito, I don't think you mean "1 second rest" on the third item down.

That advice may help others, but for me life doesn't work out so perfectly, LOL. I do see the philosophy behind the pattern, though, It's just that I'm not going to stop an exercise, etude etc. right in progress just to keep that form.

Of course, the idea was intended for comeback players.

I follow this pattern only for my warm-up. The rest of the day I do sessions of 45min and I do the complete Caruso before going to bed. That's just me....

All the best

Rick
