Anyone have an opinion on whether a wider backbore is beneficial in a mouthpiece? |

Also, does Patrick's 'comfort rim' actually help your playing at all? |

Hey JazzMetal,
I find that most players adapt quite well to the Patrick CR "Comfort Rim" line. Obviously without seeing or working with you in person, it is quite hard to tell if it will help your playing experience.
My personal history in fitting players for a multitude of different mouthpieces, have found, that switching from a tradition style mouthpiece to a Patrick Mouthpiece (specifically the CR line) players have noticed an immediate improvement in endurance, intonation, articulations, and tonal color.
Again, we are all different players and will have different experiences with different brands. If you want, do yourself a favor and pick up a Patrick Mouthpiece and see what it does for you! The worst could be is that you don't like it, but now you have that information to move forward! Please let me know if you need help choosing the right Patrick Mouthpiece for your playing needs!
Best,

I have Patrick mouthpieces with both the regular and comfort rim. That would be the 5Z/CR5Z, 5ZM/CR5ZM, and the 85M/CR85M. My playing is my playing, so it's not why I prefer the CR rim. There are two basic reasons.
1- It's easier for me to switch mouthpieces when they all have the same rim.
2- The comfort rim has less bite/more rounded inner edge on the rim and I'm able to play for longer periods of time, hence more comfort-able.
That being said the Patrick line of mouthpieces are well made and give me the sound I want for concert band and big band. |

With the issues in the past year or so with LOUD Mouthpieces, is there any chance Patrick mouthpieces will start to offer some of these pieces?
I know you originally started as a part of their company, just curious! _________________ Martin D Williams

Hi BD!
While we did start off as a part of the LOUD company, our business is no longer connected with theirs. We continue to make some of the same trumpet designs as well as many more! For low brass models we have a few ideas that may just pop up on the market!
Best,

Hello all,
I’m my journey of 25 years I’ve had Bach 3C’s, Yamaha 11B4, GR’s (like four of them) and lastly I settled on Warburton, a good friend is an AD for them so I tried almost all they got and finally settled on a 5S top with various backbores for several years...until now...I know Warburton is one of the best brands out there but....I bought a Patrick 81M two piece and this is an unbelievable mouthpiece I don’t know what Steve did here but everything improved from the first minute I played on it, I thought this was only the “honeymoon period” but nope, sound, range and specially articulations improved greatly!! Thanks Steve for making my life easier!! Now I want try one of their classical models and possibly an S top.
Best regards, Juan _________________ Schagerl "James Morrison"

Thanks so much for your feedback, Juan! We're happy to hear that the 81M top and commercial back-bore is working well for you!

I'm using the Patrick 12.3C classical mouthpiece and the CR84S top with the CM27 backbore for most of my playing. The 12.3C rim is very similar to the CR.
