I can play sax, have several alto mouthpieces and a tenor sax. Gotta say, I've never tried it. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Eddie Harris did it and called it a reed trumpet. Recorded it a bit. Not really that good but interesting in context of the music _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

I think his looked like a soprano mouthpiece. He didn’t negotiate the partials as I recall. Just had the 7 chromatic notes. And very little shaping or volume control. You can find pictures. There were some on the record covers _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

Wow..that is way better than the record I had. But it was different music too. On this one he has control over dynamics, apparently because the music called for it. Eddie Harris was a huge talent. Great singer and piano player too, as well as Sax monster.
On this one he can connect the 4th and 5th harmonic pretty effortlessly. On the record I had he was centering on g above the staff and could play the 7 half steps below that, and was no mute and LOUD. It was cool in the context. Not terrible by any means.
I’m gonna did up my Eddie Harris box set.
There was another record with reed trumpet. It had the song “wait please”. Actually not one of his better records, and I think that one had a good picture of the mouthpiece setup. I’m pretty nobody has that record:) I got in a “not for sale promo only bin” for 50 cents. _________________ Mouthpiece Maker
