Yes I know he died a few years ago, but I'm still a fan.
I'm 68, so I was loving BS&T in high school and college.
Just wanted to share my feelings with y'all.
I had had a good listen this morning on a bike ride by myself. On "Hi-De-Ho", I pressed the repeat button on my ear buds at least 10 times, and my joy never waned!
I'm pretty sure I was laughing out loud at the end of that song every time.
Can I get an "Amen!"? _________________ Craig Mitchell |

His combo album, But Beautiful is one of my favorites. Also on the Manhattan Jazz Quintet. You get to hear him stretch out, a wonderful player. |

Lew was such an amazing player. A French horn player I know roomed with Lew for a year in college. He had a the utmost respect for Lew.
I met Lew twice and he was a bit eccentric. Extremely friendly but a bit out there. |

Amen!
I remember very clearly when I was in Junior High school, Spinning Wheel was all over a.m. radio. What I didn't know was that the version mostly played on Radio was an edited version that did not include the trumpet solo. So one day I'm in one of my local burger joints (not a fast food chain...more like a cafe) having lunch and they're playing the radio. Spinnin' Wheel comes on and I"m digging it, then POW! the trumpet solo I'd never heard! Holy sh**!
I couldn't believe I was listening to a rock band on a.m. radio with a burning jazz trumpet solo in it. And a VERY well played solo at that.......

The saxophonist Gerry Niewood had a couple of solo albums out. One of them was called 'Slow, Hot Wind' and it features either a quintet or sextet. Anyway I haven't heard it in years, but Soloff is the trumpet player and I seem to remember his being the usual excellent performance.
