Due to familial obligations I put my horn down three years ago. My old principle called me back two years ago to play 3rd for Mahler 1 and I couldn't miss that so I coaxed my chops back into action for one concert cycle only, then put the horn away again.

Now things have evolved and my family swore they would give me practice time and one night a week for rehearsals, so here we go again! I played around for a couple weeks with flow studies and the first few pages of Arban, but last week I dug out "Systematic Approach" and things sincerely starting to click again! The confidence is still there and I am looking forward to Dvořák 9 in the fall and whatever comes after.

Keep at it motoboy. I think that it’s important that you find time for you and forget about all those other obligations.

Good luck this time.

What opportunities. And the Dvorak is one of my favourites. Have a great time.

After reading all of the replies here, all I could think was "man, misery DOES love company!"

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more."

"Never give in..."

But why did my brain choose to strive at golf and trumpet--Two of the hardest activities to do well?

One breach or another always seems to loom ahead.

Now I can call myself a bogey trumpet player. No glory, but I don't embarrass myself.
