Hello,

I want to ask if anybody could give an advice about great trumpet themes, but not too difficult in terms of tessiture or technique?
It is for a student who actually works on Chinatown Theme.
Thank you everybody,
Eric

For those old enough to remember, the best part of the show "Dynasty" (on ABC?), was the opening theme played by Bob DiVall. The rest of the show was pretty lame.

I am old enough but only remember Linda Evans, nothing else.

If we're talking TV show theme songs, the 1979 version of The Donahue Show at 55 seconds in. Highest note is Eb (concert Db6).

Thank you for your excellent suggestions, but it is a little too difficult for the young boy... I look for a melody not higher than G or A just above the staff... for that, Chinatown is excellent!

Yes, you are right. But if the melody is that simple, you can copy the original style and the original sound.

How about the theme from "Superman"? Or maybe "Star Wars"?

Yes, perhaps the imperial march?
I have found beautiful melodies not too difficult in this: https://youtu.be/EmI0ArbI5RA

Bill Cont's theme for Cagney and Lacey has some pretty spectacular trumpet playing.

This should be perfect for your student - very simple melody in low to middle register (start at 4:16):

Per Tim Wendt, soloist is probably Malcolm McNab, although with Gary Grant and Bob Findley filling out the section it might have been any of them.

How about some practice in key of A major:

If your guy is interested in jazz, here's a Charlie Parker tune:
