Hey All,

How do you clean your flugel after the valve block? From there to the end of the bell is a long way. I tried a HW Brass saver, the flugel length one and it was hard to get it to go trough, and I snapped the line - had to get the rest out with pillars.

Do most just ignore that part and give it a good soak and hope for the best, or what?

In this TH thread in May 2020…

https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=153905&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=meinlschmidt+hydrojet&start=0

…a lot is discussed. On p. 2, I mentioned this…

Meinlschmidt Hydro-Jet

https://www.hornguys.com/collections/care-cleaning/products/meinlschmidt-hydro-jet-cleaning-system

…but The Horn Guys are out of stock, so you might have to get it from Thomann Music:

https://www.thomannmusic.com/meinlschmidt_hydro_jet_m1.htm

I think it's one of the best things for cleaning horns, flugels included, since sliced bread...but I wouldn't try to clean my horn with sliced bread.

I clicked on the link and ordered from Thomann, and just as I was placing ther order noticed shipping cost was $50.55! It is coming from Germany. I messaged them and tried to cancel the order, but if it doesn't work, I am out over $70 for a hose. Big mistake...

It's not the hose; you can get something that will work at Ace Hardware. It's the adapter that is sized for your receiver. Thomann is the only place I could find that. I have two: one for trumpet, and one for cornet/flugelhorn. I am sorry about the shipping charge, though; that's new. Mine was a few bucks back in January.

This is terribly unfortunate. I believe that COVID-19 has affected governments and international trade and shipping more than ever before. If anyone finds something like this device, or substitute parts that can accomplish the same action, then please post here for the rest of us.

I use a similar one, HornFlush.

Thanks, Mike! I'd definitely buy one of these if I didn't already have the Meinlschmidt Hydro-Jet.

I'd love to see one of these in action. Anyone have a video link?

I can't envision holding my horn, holding the camera, and controlling a shooting jet of water. But maybe someone will attempt it.

I don't have a video of it, but here's how I use it. I use the basement sink, because it has a threaded faucet that matches the HornFlush hose. Also, the basement sink is plastic, and not likely to scratch my horn. I put the hose halfway down the leadpipe. I wrap a wet towel around the valves, to keep them down, and lay the horn down in the sink. The I turn on the water and let it run for a while. I just use warm water. I don't use the HornFlush cleaning solution.
