The trickiest part of this for me was the use of vibrato - how far to go to make it sound appropriate. I actually don't think I went quite far enough, but you kind of have to find the zone... I employed a bit more reverb here to try to approximate the sound of a nice hall, which I think works with this. |
I think the vibrato worked well. This was a nice change-up from your recent posts. Wonderful touch on the grace notes and the flow of the piece. I was a little worried when I read about the extra reverb, but it turned out to be very tastefully applied. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

This one was tricky on many levels. It's a type of articulation that I don't use very often - very crisp, short and light. I was surprised at just how dry I had to keep it for the sake of clarity - it does get muddy in a few spots (particularly near the end). I departed from one of my rules here by editing it - I got a little twisted around the third measure from the end but really didn't want to throw everything before it out. Since I was going to edit anyway, I went back to about the 2/3 - 3/4 mark and took a fresher run at it.
I'm taking a few days off, so my next etude will most likely not be until 8/11. _________________ Jim Wilt

Such a tasteful approach to this one. I really liked the genteel approach to all the dynamics. A listening pleasure. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Having played the cornet, front row brass band, 60 years, I hope that towards the end of the next 60 years I should at least be able to nail the beautiful last tone! So centered and lovely!
In short such a delight listening to you! Please carry on! _________________ Cornets: mp 143D3/ DW Ultra 1,5 C

But you were completely transparent about the edit, so I doubt anyone cares. Nice work. Nice sound throughout.

You came back early. I was away and now have to catch up.
This was a really fine one to return to. Interesting, almost familiar passages, nicely rendered. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

That's an understatement, and along with the nasty accidentals, nasty leaps and other inconveniences, nasty in general, but handled with aplomb as usual. Great work. Thanks for showing us how it should be done. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Tongue calisthenics. Nice job with all the little intricacies here especially keeping the slow parts musical and the transitions back into the fast parts. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Really wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful tone and the subtle way you handled the dynamics. One thing I have learned from your etudes is how subtle things can be but still have an impact. Thanks. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S
