Would the money you put into it for a precision valve alignment and cleaning, etc. be worth it vs. putting that money into a professional level horn?

Maybe. As stated earlier, I'm not looking for a better trumpet. I've got my Olds for that. What I'm trying to determine is whether or not I can get my Getzen to play/sound better, what I could do to it other than replacing major parts of the horn, and how much it would cost. It's probably more than anyone without an emotional attachment would spend, no argument there.

Before I modified a cherished horn for no particular reason other than trying to make it better, I'd invest in having the horn professionally cleaned, aligned, possibly even blueprinted. Only then if you find it lacking in any particular aspect should you consider asking an expert shop for potential solutions.

That's solid advice, I think I'll go for that first. I didn't know blueprinting was a thing but it does sound like something that might work.

I'd love to visit your shop someday, but as I'm from Europe, it's sadly not an option for me. I'd never trust the postal services with my instruments ever.
