Hi there!
I am curious about Conn 6B Victor trumpets from different time phases especially the difference between the Elkhart and Abeline (Texas) era. Is there much difference and do the Elkhart ones really play better?
Thanks and all the best,

I have a 1960 model, and it’s a fine instrument. Good intonation, easy to play, big sound, easy upper register. I don’t have any experience with the really early ones or the late, non-Coprion leadpipe ones, though.

I've had both horns and the Elkhart horn was noticibly superior. I've had a handful of Abilene horns and often valves are not fit well, sticky or too loose, same with slides. Some have played fine but the Elkhart horns are quite consistent in being excellent so difference in price is warranted imo. _________________ Scodwell Boston

I currently have a good representation of both Elkhart and Abiline Conns and prefer the Elkhart in both manufacturing as well as response.
Even though this is true, I have not played a bad Abilene Conn trumpet. This includes 2 6B's, a 36B, and an exceptional 8B.
I also own a re-issued UMI 38B from '93 that out plays them all...even my '67 38B !!
