I'm looking to order a Curry cornet mouthpiece with an Olds shank with either the TC or DC cup. Does anyone have experience with either or both?

Thanks!

Bill

I have a 3DC. and a 3TC., standard shank. I seem to like the DC best. I recently got an Ambassador with an Olds 3 that I like even better. Of course I don't use the standard Currys in the 1953 Olds.

I prefer the sound and playability of the DC. cup.. TC. for me is too open, spreads, and doesn't contain the cornet sound.. ( I play on 3 rims )

I use a DC wrapped with a single layer of electrical tape with a large receiver Ambassador cornet and it works great. Cheap solution if you already have a standard shank mouthpiece.

I’ve had both and didn’t like either one. The DC was too bright and the TC gave me intonation problems. I really like the Curry BBC, though.

Hi
I use a 3DC with an O shank for my Ambassador. I have modern cornets that I use a Curry 3 BBC if that is the sound I am looking for.. I own the Flip Oakes 3VC and 3WT made by Curry as well. Right now I'm using a Pickett 3 most of the time. You really can't go wrong with the Curry mouthpieces though. They are very high quality for the price.

I have both. They’re both a bit demanding for someone like me who isn’t a big cornet player. However, the TC surprisingly has a good amount of focus in the higher register.

Talking only about mouthpieces, I use a Curry 5VC and it works perfectly for me. No BBB but traditional jazz style, ala Bix. (Yes, I know about recording techniques and equipment, let's not go down that rabbit hole.)

I use it with a Conn 80A, FWIW.

Just a follow up here, I wound up going the 3TC. and am very happy with it. Great feel with the rim and I'm digging the sound. Thanks for all the input!
