Dang that’s great playing, probably the best I’ve heard it on a Bb instrument, and of course surely ‘the best it’s ever been done’ on a flugel! Makes me want to woodshed more, but also just happy to appreciate their artistry.

Interesting! This is a repost on YouTube from several years ago. Only reason I’m pointing this out is that this video doesn’t give credit to anyone. Who are they? What are they playing?
Anyone have a link to the original video if it still exists? |

Perhaps it's a German shank.
From the Callet Website:
German Shank
"Rarest of the flugelhorn shanks, the German size starts at 10mm (.394") OD at the set point and tapers down from there. Flugelhorns with this taper are easily spotted because they accept a trumpet mouthpiece. Though sometimes used on European horns, especially Miraphones from Germany, it's rarely used on American flugs." _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

True. I wrote them and asked and got a reply really fast. Very approachable guys.
Korbi Weber (the one sitting next to the guitarist) plays a Monette trumpet mouthpiece in this video.
Wasti Höglauer (sitting next to the bass trumpet) plays a mouthpiece of his own design that will soon (?) be available from a German instrument/mouthpiece manufacturer. Weber. Possibly this one: https://www.weber-instrumente.de/
I am pleased that you share my enjoyment for this video.
Stay healthy

I don´t think I get what you mean with original video. This is an excerpt from a German TV show (Wirtshausmusikanten), uploaded to youtube by the TV station producing the show (BR, Bayerischer Rundfunk).
The band is the "Kapelle So&So" (https://www.souso.de/). My understanding is that the musicians have known each other for ages, but this band was officially founded only in 2017. |
