I bought a used horn and I think the previous owner might have been a a mad chemist. The valve casings are bright yellow. What would cause this? _________________ Jim Hatfield

For many years repair techs used Chromic Acid as part of their chem clean process. This make s the brass a very distinct color. I call it radioactive yellow. It can last for years and years and years without tarnishing and stay the bright color. _________________ Josh Landress

Overhaul shops have had to resort to non-chronic bright dips.
My first employer had chromic acid bright dip in his shop. Unfortunately all the rinsing down the drain killed the good bacteria on his septic tank! 😳 Besides that, it is highly toxic. ☠️ _________________ James Becker
