|
|
Something interesting happened during my RO #3 practice tonight.
I've been practicing RO #3 for a few weeks. Tonight, I was surprised to find I could slur down to the double pedals without having to change my horn angle much. Until this, RO 1-3 required a fairly dramatic horn tilt for those pedals to speak.
This phenomena is mentioned on pg. 70 of the book:
"Eventually, the lips shift with more economy of movement."
Nothing more is said about it, though. Seems like a huge deal, but am I reading too much into it? Thanks! |

As long as you achieve and maintain the core RO sound, economizing movement is fine. However, I have noticed several students over the years who experienced the movement reducing in the first month or so - there is a natural tendency to want to do less - but who also ended up compromising their sound.
You may - or may not - be ready for less movement. In this situation, let the unique double pedal sound be the guide, more than the angle.
