Tony Kadleck did a great arrangement of holiday music performed by all the brass players who were on shows, or had upcoming shows when Broadway was shut down. He doesn't like to toot his own horn, so I thought I'd share it with you:

Enjoy! |

Tony Kadleck is an amazing trumpet player and putting this together was over the top. The one and only time I was fortunate enough to play with him was a Carnegnie Hall Pops concert with Doc Severinsen. I was Doc's road manager and played first trumpet on his pops concerts and on this occasion the organizers had a contest about something or another with the winner getting to conduct the Carnegie Hall Pops Orchestra on a piece of their choosing. At the rehearsal I realized immediately that the "Overture From West Side Story" was way beyond my capabilities and asked Tony if he would mind playing lead and I'd try to handle the fourth part. At the concert which was Doc's big band program, I was feeling good playing with the best NYC cats and the Overture was to start the second half. I was up with Doc and naturally all his NY friends wanted a moment with him. My duties included getting him dressed and making sure his trumpet was OK to go. The dressing room was packed and I'm trying to get Doc dressed and I hear the opening statement from the overture downstairs on stage. Of course I missed the whole piece and as I slid back into my chair I looked over at Tony and said, "how'd I sound"?

Nice! The young lady with the long hair playing trombone is the daughter of a principal I worked with for a few years. I also know her dad who is a retired music educator and a very active musician. |
