Happy New Year! |
You're welcome, and same to you! Congrats on your new horn, I hope you too'll have lots of fun and make great music together!
Incidently, Trent just made a video that discusses the exact topic as well. You may want to check it out. |

Thanks, everyone!
Can't wait for my horn to arrive.
I'll keep you posted on the progress, or lack thereof... _________________ Ars longa vita brevis |

OK, an update!
First, I want to thank everyone who posted in this thread. I did read each and every comment and I googled each and every recommendation. In the end I did buy a brand new flugelhorn!
Of course, I followed one of your recommendations right here!

I must say, the very first time I laid my eyes on this beauty I knew was in love! I kid you not - just by LOOKING at it I was sold!
Still, it took a while to find a teacher who was willing to drive to my home - instead of being my "virtual coach". Finally, this past Friday I had my very first lesson!
Apprehensive as I was, I actually did quite well and am now practicing daily . That first lesson in fact rehashed many memories form the days when I was playing bassoon, years, that is, decades ago! "Building the embouchure"... "maintaining a single tone"... Learning to "use and control the diaphragm"... etc...etc.
But, no matter what, I just LOVE the sound of this beautiful instrument. Of course, I will never be another Freddie Hubbard, or even Chuck Mangione (god, did I actually write "even"?!? ) but that's not the point. Not at this age, at least . And, should I get bored - I'll always have my piano and my guitars. End of (that) story.
Once again, THANK YOU, guys! I am in your debt forever!

That's so good to read! Glad we could be an inspiration to you and no worries, you don't owe anyone anything...we all just love to talk about trumpet-related stuff here! |
