Man, I forgot about this video. Jan Van Duikeren just tears it up. He's way too hip for this band. I mean, listen to those lines. It's funny how he starts with the usual the smooth jazz vibe, and just starts with those long bebop lines. I love it!

What is "too hip for this band"? IMO it's perfect. Candy has taken the opportunity to use, employ, and expose to to pop audiences playing of depth. I can hardly see anything more laudable than that. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I think it's great that she has him in the band. I don't think she's out to do public service or whatever you're implying. She likes the contrast from a musical perspective.
"Too hip for this band" is in reference to him playing bebop stuff in this smooth jazz setting. Hip does not mean better. _________________ The name I go by in the real world is Joe Lewis

Very nice. Great playing. What a sound on the flugel. I play an Olds L12 which is a really dark flugel, but I can't get it that smokey. Wish I could. _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt.

I found his playing to be coherent and totally appropriate. I did get tired of the cutaways to show Candy flipping her hair or smiling or whatever. I get the marketing, I'm just tired of it.
Really nice flugel playing! _________________ Richard

I go back and listen to this video every couple months - love his style and his flugel sound
I agree that there's something very satisfying about his sound, invention, and the clarity of the recording. I wouldn't mind being able to capture any fraction of that quality. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."
