Of course, that's just if you want an amazing broad, fat, focused, warm, brilliant, dark, resonant, vibrant, velvet, earth shattering, tear-jerking sound with unparalleled projection, perfect intonation, and response so fast the notes just jump out of the bell with the slightest effort.

Wow. You just described my gig this morning!

I don't understand why one should strive for a darker Bb sound than the C sound. The Bb thends to sound richer, due to the longer tubing.

I've ben working in a opera orchestra for the past 19 years, playing a lot of the repertoire on Bb-both as tutti trumpet and solo trumpet.

Currently, I'm on leave from my band, being solo trumpet in the Oslo phil. This is a very C trumpet orinted orchestra, but We'we used Bb' on a few occasions. The last thing I would want from a Bb in both these settings is a dark sound. I would have to work my butt off to even be heard by the woodwinds!

Maybe THEY want to get me a darker horn-like a flugel or something....!

Yes, I meant 43 bell/7 LP. I have a Bach 43 with a tuning rail on it. I would have a 43 tuning bell with a 7 leadpipe. I figured the 43 would be bright, but the 7 would darken it slightly offering a nice tone. What does everyone think?

What lp does your 43 have now?

It's just a bell with a tuning rail on it. That's all I have. I'll be buying a set of Bach ML valves or be getting a set of valves from my friend. So I'm starting from scratch, which makes it much harder.

A Bach 190-43 with a 1-1/4 sized mouthpiece and a larger back bore like a #24 does the trick, believe me. Huge sound, never breaks up, great core, everything you would want in Bb orchestral setup.

Both the 43 bell and 43 lp are each brighter than other options. I played this through school and while i was louder than the entire marching band put together (graduating class of 2200) .

I would recommend following this guy’s advice since he is from the future.

So, given that you're still relatively new here, I'll let you in on the information that razeontherock has been a solid contributor here for 17 years with over 10,000 posts. I can forgive a typo here and there. Otherwise, the things he posts are usually pretty accurate - I don't agree with anyone 100% of the time, but I can't think of a specific instance where I didn't.

Seeing as how this is (yet again) another revived zombie thread, I'll just say Bach and Yamaha are the top two choices of orchestral players.

You're right - for an old zombie thread it probably doesn't matter.
