I played a 5X for many years. It has a larger bell taper through the throat. (think Bach 72) It worked for everything including brass quintet and orchestra. With a shallow cup mouthpiece it was fine for lead and commercial work. (I was doing a lot of Latin and rock band work at the time). I think that it is the most versatile model.

I had a chance to give a Benge 2X+ a pretty good workout a number of years ago. At the time I was playing a Schilke X4b, so my "daily driver" had a larger bore, reverse leadpipe, more open-throated lighter bell, and any number of other design differences.

At the time I was using the Schilke for pretty much all my gigs, and I was playing a fair amount of pit orchestra, community band, and church gigs, as well as big band and commercial stuff.

Nobody ever told me my Schilke didn't work. My impression of the Benge 2X+ was that (once I got used to its particular tendencies) it would have worked just as well.
