After checking the Yamaha web site again I should clarify that they are inconsistent in their designations of weight. New York model is listed as weight "heavy", the Chicago does not have the same listing, only the bell diameter. So, I am assuming that the weight is referring to the trumpet as a whole and not necessarily the bell. Sorry to ruffle anyone's skirts over that scandalous misstatement.

seems the only ruffling is on your end, friend.

Your Chicago Bb is heavier than 37, or Chicago C? I don't get that same feel, but I have a Gen 2 9335CHS and it feels lighter than most 37's i come into contact with. I also stated that perhaps it's not actual weight so much as balance; what I mean by that is the horn feels very balanced from front to back and not heavier on the bell end like some horns can.

This is an interesting thread. Does anyone know the differences between the 2nd and 3rd generation Bb models? Specifically the 9335IICHS vs. 9335IIICHS and 9335IINYS vs. 9335IIINYS?

I believe the valve section is thinner on the III. I believe the leadpipe is slightly heavier. And, they ditched the roundish tuning slide (CHS) which was the main reason most didn’t love the II. Went back to traditional crook shape.

Is it worth saving up for the Gen 3 Chicago C or just getting a used Gen 1 or 2 if I can find them?

It depends. The Gen 3 is amazing.
But, you can get a Gen II for a good price and then order a Gen 3 tuning slide for it. That’ll get you close to the Gen 3

As for the Gen 1, I know many professionals who still swear by the original Gen 1 and never upgraded to the 2 or 3.

The key is trying before buying and see what works best.
