I was listening to Pandora, specifically to Miles Davis. The station mixes a large variety of blues trumpet musicians. One of them, and I do not remember his name (obviously) played a very long version of The Summer Knows, a trumpet solo (if memory serves) totally and absolutely beautiful and totally and absolutely haunting. When I looked up in my PC who was playing I did not recognize the name as anybody who was familiar to me, and stupidly I thought I would remember. I have googled The Summer Knows trumpet cover, blues trumpet version, and etc, and etc. with no success.

Please help. I hope somebody knows what I am looking for.

Not exactly blues, but I know Maynard covered it on M.F. Horn Vol.2.

Here's a nice version from the Summer of 42 soundtrack that starts with a lovely trumpet solo.

Well, I haven't heard Doc's rendition yet, but I am haunted by that gorgeous rich, fat brassy sound of Maynard on his version, yet for him it is a very controlled version. It's the best individual song recording of Maynard I ever heard.

Gonna listen to Doc's version...

John

I believe this link goes to a recording that features Derek Watson on flugelhorn.

One of my favorite MF albums. Some truly gorgeous music and arrangements, performed fantastically.
