Hello,

who can recommend great recordings of this standard by trumpetplayers?

I know Roy's version but there must be more...

Thanks!

Tobias

I think a few sax players may have recorded it, like Coltrane, but I don't know of any trumpet player other than Roy who recorded My Shining Hour. It kind of surprises me because it does sound great on the trumpet. I play it myself quite often.

The song is from a 1943 Fred Astaire film that tanked at the box office, though, strangely enough the song was quite popular and I'm sure it was even a number one hit for a time. I would have thought that someone like Bobby Hackett or Chet Baker would have recorded it, but I couldn't find anything on Google.

Warren Vache does a great job with it. I think he has recorded it at least twice.

You're welcome, Tobias. Looks like he is playing his Conn Vintage One on the cover shown in the video. It is a great horn. I love the warm tone I get with mine.

Wow, the various Google searches I did didn't come up with any of these. I'm surprised I didn't stumble on the Art Farmer video somewhere in the Google jungle.
