Hi everybody hope you all doing really well. I would appreciate if you could share with me any information about a vintage flugelhorn named The Caravelle by Donald E Getzen and manufatured by Ernst Modl Company (EMO) in Germany, serial number 170, the horn has a one piece hand hammered bell and the wrap of the bell its similar to the one that is common among the rotary valve flugelhorns, horizontal slides like a trumpet, large bore (about 0.460 inches bore), baluster type of braces. For me that horn plays really well, i would apprecite if you could tell me whats the approximate date of manufacturing, whats the skill level of that horn and your general opinion about the horn.

Thanks in anvance

Hi
I owned one of these around 1968 or 69. It was my first flugelhorn. It had a first valve slide trigger. The sound was quite nice. The intonation and construction were very good. I eventually replaced it with a Getzen Eterna. The DEG horn went a friend who was very happy with it.

Thanks a lot for your anwer, those horns are really good but it seems that the Ernst Modl company didnt manufactured a lot of them and theres no too much information about the technical specifications of the horn, it plays different than my other flugelhorn that is a Leblanc Paris (Courtois Breveté professional model) because of the large bore and the general construction of the instruments but in terms of the richness of the sound and the intonation they play at the same level, i would say that Emo DEG Caravelle is a professional level Flugelhorn contrary to the Stencil Blessing Scholastic that was later the base model for the DEG Caravelle which was more an intermediate level horn. I would like also to know if you remember how different was the Eterna from your Caravelle.
