I have a question about the use of air in Stamp lip buzzing exercises that I'm hoping someone can help me with - how is the air released, in terms of quantity and intensity, while doing lip buzzing? Is it more like the way we gently release air for singing, or more like actively blowing out candles?

I do it somewhere in between; more gentle than forceful. Didn't specifically discuss that with Roy Poper, but he didn't correct me, so assume the way I do it was ok.

Check out minute 5 to hear and see the man himself do some lip buzzing.

Generally it's good to get a balance between using your air and the corners of your lips. As you go higher in range, Poper use to tell me to say "ooh" as this aligns your tongue/aperture.

You are referring to lips alone. The only thing Stamp said to me is "hup-play". He played the piano while I did lips alone on the I-V pattern up to a concert Bb (for me). He never commented on the air; you move air however you need to to get those notes.

Stamp would probably say the important thing here is "hup-play", with the tongue behind the teeth for the "play". I say this because he said his "short-short warm-up", like in the car going to a gig and no chance to play, is repeated "hup-play" on a pitch in some easy range.

Hope this helps.
