Flitz will polish just about anything (you can get it on Amazon, etc.) Be extra gentle when polishing around any engravings, as any polish will smooth them out, and the lines won't look crisp anymore.

Flitz is the best I’ve found, and I think I’ve tried close to all of them. It works on bare brass, copper, bronze, sterling silver, nickel-silver; in fact any metal I’ve found as long as it is in-lacquered. It cleans and polishes, and is great at both.
It’s as mild a cleaner as I’ve found, as easy on hands, and it also does wonders for sink cleaning, flat-top stoves, and cleaning auto headlights.
It’s so good I’ve considered using it as toothpaste. (OK, the last sentence isn’t true, but all the previous are).
You can find it at some Ace Hardware stores, and many auto supply stores carry it because it’s such an excellent clean and polish item.
Go Flitz! _________________ Jonathan Milam

Regarding Fritz. Jeffrey Herman a professional silver restorer lists polishes by their abrasive qualities here.
Flitz can be found with other abrasive cleaners under the heading:
WARNING!
Severely Abrasive Products – Do Not Use on Silver!
Make up your own mind, I just want you to have more complete information. |

Nope. I don’t own any raw brass so I haven’t done any research on that.
On the other hand, I am very confident, despite not researching it, that using Flitz as toothpaste is ill advised. (tongue firmly in cheek) |

Buy some Simichrome, MAAS, Wenol, or Autosol metal polish. They are more gentle and work great on brass, copper, and nickel. They will also work on tough stains on silver plating, but it’s best to dilute it with water and use light pressure for that. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |
