Before someone redirects me to any number of the threads out there pertaining to invisalign braces I want to hear from a narrower selection of folks.

My situation:
32 Year old professional trumpet player. (Military)
My front teeth are slightly crowded and can cause discomfort on longer days or harder gigs. I'm sure we've all been there (that little scar that forms behind your teeth).

I figured the military might foot the bill, so I booked an appointment with an orthodontist.

He said that if I were willing to have one (just one) tooth extracted I could have straight teeth.

He said he would push to not have to pull the tooth but I have to be prepared when I go in that I will probably loose it. The tooth being pulled is directly behind my lower eye tooth (the tooth behind the pointy tooth).

The question,

Has anyone (professional players only please or dentists that have worked on professional players) had this procedure done where they had to extract a tooth for invisalign purposes.

Your results?

I wore invisalign for a year back in 03-04. I was not playing a whole lot at the time as I teach band/string at an arts magnet school. I was advised by the orthodontist to refrain from playing. When I returned to playing I had some issues that I had not anticipated. I lost my middle register for awhile, my notes from G above the staff were fine. I actually gained a few steps and was pretty strong to a G or A above high C. It took awhile to regain my middle register. I would guess that the vibrating surface had changed.
If you play for a living this could be disastrous. Best of luck while going through your dental procedures.

I have never had braces, but my lower teeth look almost exactly like yours. I anchor on the prominent lower tooth. So I play off center to the right.

When I was a teenager, my upper eye teeth really were canines. They would stick out over my lip like vampire teeth. The dentist pulled the teeth directly behind, as in your case, and the eye teeth moved back of their own accord.
