Anyone know of transcriptions of the early solos by Ack van Rooyen (or others) when he was in the solo chair with the Bert Kaempfert orchestra? (ie. Swingin' Safari, Red Roses For A Blue Lady, etc). Thx. _________________ Bach 239 C

I don't sorry, but just wanted to recommend a new recording he is on, "White Noise", by the bassist/composer Martin Wind. He sounds great, as usual. |

Pretty sure all the original solos on the recordings were played by Charlie Tabor and Fred Moch. _________________ Too Soon Oldt, Too Late Schmart |

I agree. One of my early favourites was "Wonderland by Night" - solo by Charly Tabor. By the way: turned out that my mother´s cousin married a German chap lates fifties. Nothing much was told about his previous life but when he and I discussed the Kaempfert band,he mentioned that he was acquainted with Charly T, somewhat unclear how. I got the impression that old Willy perhaps had been in the "entertainment" business during the war.
Anyhow, when he finally passed away I played "Wonderland by Night" (+the organ) at his funeral - his German relatives were moved to tears, telling me that it was the best funeral they´ve ever had attended. _________________ Cornets: mp 143D3/ DW Ultra 1,5 C
