I caught the last movement of a baroque concerto played on a piccolo trumpet on the radio and the trumpeter was not identified.

The extraordinary, virtuosic playing went up to high A over C. It was in tune, perfect articulation, and a solid tone qualtity. The concerto was just empty virtuosity, completely unknow to me.

The closest guess was Hardenberger, but this guy attempted playing that was beyond anything I've heard from him.

Playing the Brandenberg would be warmup for this guy (or gal).

Anybody venture a guess as to who it is?

Try going to the website of the radio station and see if they have a playlist.

It was a station that changed identities from a college station to a public station didn't let the concerto finish. I can't even remember the call letters.

In a couple minutes I was able to find that in the last week or so our local classical station (WXXI) has played:
Molter Concerto 1 - Hardenberger
Molter Concerto 2 - Guy Touvron
Strauss Lullaby - Helseth
Hummel - Niklas Eklund
Torelli Concerto 6 - Niklas Eklund
Neruda - John Wallace
Torelli Trumpet Sonata a cinque No. 7 - Marsalis
Leopold Mozart - both Marsalis and Erik Schultz

And that's just the weekday programs.

If you can provide your location maybe that will help someone track it down. And I've had mixed results with classical music but there are smartphone apps that if you're fast enough (and not driving!) they'll listen for a moment and attempt to identify a piece.

One of the cleanest players in that register today is Jens Lindemann. His new recording of the Brandenberg is stunning. I can't imagine what other pieces you might have heard that he would have recorded.

So some of the same shows as we have here. Do you remember the time?

https://www.wmht.org/classical/#playlist

4/28 6:49PM Marsalis/Michael Haydn Trumpet Concerto 2
4/27 9:47AM Hardenberger Haydn Trumpet Concerto 2
4/27 5:32AM Eklund/Hummel
4/25 9:45AM Balsom/ Bach Trio Sonata No. 5
4/24 8:05AM Marsalis/Leopold Mozart Trumpet Concerto

It's possible you heard an original cadenza for one of those
