Two questions:

1. What's with the apparent "ring colour" around the horn?

2. Is this really bad corrosion, or just lacquer chip damage?

Thx.

Wouldn't worry too much about the lacquer colour. King Clevelands were very fine student trumpets. They are all old now, so things like dirt inside, stuck slides, etc. are what to watch for.

About the 'bell color' - the flair part of the bell is made separately and then 'fused' to the rest of the bell tubing. The color change is where the 2 pieces are joined. The color change might be due to a difference in brass alloy between the 2 pieces. I wouldn't worry about it as long as it is structurally sound.

On my King trumpet there isn't a visible color change between the 2 pieces, but there is a narrow ring that is visible where they are joined.

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'.

Thx, I fiind that interesting. All the YouTube videos I've seen start out with a tube, and oddly shaped bell, then it is shaped on a lathe.

I would sure like to have seen how they did that.

As JayKosta posted above, it's a 2 piece bell vs a 1 piece bell. Not that uncommon, especially for student horns.

Some pretentious snobs pretend that 2 piece bells are inherently superior, but excellent horns have been made with each technique. Professional horns tend to be made with 1 piece bells, nowadays.

The rest seems like normal lacquer wear. It's a rather more wear at some contact points, but that's not shocking.
