I wondered if these two ever played together. When asked about what trumpet players he admired, Chet Baker singled out Tom Harrell.

Tom recorded three CDs with Philip Catherine on guitar, who had also worked with Chet. The CDs are called 'I Remember You' (dedicated to Chet) and 'Moods' Volume I and II. There is also a live video of them floating around. All excellent. |

In an interview from the early 80's, Chet Bake singled out Tom Harrell as one of his favorite trumpeters. I'm paraphrasing, but Chet said something like, "Great technique, great mind, he's got it all!"
Chet's other favorite trumpeter was Kenny Dorham. I guess he really like KD's "Jazz Contrasts" recording. _________________ Brent |
