I have a cornet mouthpiece stamped "Los Angeles CM PURVIANCE 5*3 2 & it is in gold. I have heard that "original" Purviances were not gold plated.....any ideas?

It could have always been gold plated by another shop.

If it don't have the R in a circle yes , a very rare mpc , I have one original cornet 4☆3 that I guess is also very rare and two P9A and a P9 for cornet but those are later models.
Great cornet mpc , the diameter is around 1.5 to 3C with the best rim ever made (for me) , the bbore is tight , tighter than Reeves cornet mpcs and it works great with large bore cornets.
If you ever want to let it go email me.

Regards

Thanks guys. I agree I love this piece; it has no R in circle and plays wonderfully in my trumpets
