Does anyone have any experience with this bag? I've got one in my hands and I'm not sure the best way to fit it.
Gard's video shows him fitting the cornet right-side-up, then it abruptly switches to valves-down midway through the video. Since the valve casing isn't much longer than the pipe wrap, I think upside-down probably makes more sense. However the pinky hook does dig into the padding that way - not much room between the front of the valves and the bell.
The bell cone adds some length to the cornet. I measured to make sure the Neo would fit, but I didn't account for the extra inch between the bell and the end of the case.
Once it's in, the bell bow is very close to the end of the case. It has to be pulled tight around the end of the cornet to close the zipper, and while the zipper has a thick piece of foam shielding it, the corner seam has none.
I'm wondering if I should send it back as "doesn't fit, smaller than advertised" although I think I have a fairly standard-size cornet.
I'll get some pictures in a reply. _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

I have a Gard cornet bag, but don't use it very often. When I do, I place it valves down / upside down as you said. That configuration seems to work best. My cornet is a Lawler TL (shepherd's crook) and should not be that different in size from your cornet, so I am thinking it can work. I'm not sure my way is ideal, but I am happy to share a picture if you need - just message me. _________________ Matt Dalton |

Thanks, does your cornet come as near to the end as mine does? _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

I have what looks to be about 3/4" more room than is shown in your pictures. It could be a difference in the bag (mine is Cordura, yours leather) or it could be the instrument (my cornet is 14" long.) The valve section on mine is taller and that makes the wrap a bit different.
I understand your concerns. After seeing your pictures, I think there is justification to return it and look for another case or bag that's a better fit. _________________ Matt Dalton |

Well, it's packed up ready to go back. Full refund, but I'm paying the return shipping, $23. So an expensive, failed experiment. Seems like a very good quality bag, just too small: Too short in the long direction, and too skinny at the crook end.
By the way, the Neo cornet is 14-1/8" long, 7-5/8" tall, 5" wide bell. The bag is advertised as having inner dimension of 15.25 x 11 x 4.75.

I have a leather one, and my Bach 184 fits fine if I put it in upside down. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |
