Whaddya all think: is this a genuine MV mouthpiece or a fake (not that I would spend 500 bucks on an MP …).

Either fake or poorly refinished. The lettering looks weird, almost like it was engraved. The originals would have been stamped. It's possible it was buffed to death and someone engraved over the original text before replating it, although that seems like a lot of time and money spent. I would stay away from that piece; it certainly doesn't look original.

That’s what I thought. I am happy with my MPs, so no desire to buy

Prices up to 300 or 400 US dollars will be paid for the bigger MtV mouthpieces (from 3C to 1). And that will make that we will see more and more fake Mt Vernons, it's a certain side of the nature of the human species/ kleptomaniac ape.
I know some players that are real players who think the genuine MtV's are worth it.

Hard to say. The stamping doesn't seem very deep, but that could be the photo. Here is a genuine fake Bach trumpet on the same site:

Not fake.
The letters have polish residue in them.

Not overly buffed either
